I have had this 42″ Panasonic Viera Plasma TV for nearly four month’s now; I upgraded from a 21″ Panasonic CRT. This is a really great TV at a reasonable price. I chose plasma because they got great reviews and seem to have less issues with backlighting and were a bit cheaper than current generation LED/LCD’s. I opted for the S version over the X version because I don’t have broadband. We get 20 odd channels over the air with an antenna, PBS which has a lot of HD programming comes in beautifully. We joined Netflix about the same time and have really been enjoying the home theatre experience. My TV room is narrow less than 12′ so I made cardboard cutouts while deciding between the 42″ and the 46″, in hind sight I could have gone with the 46″. I was worried a 46″ from 7 feet away would be too big or grainy, the fact is you could be 12″ away with HD before it starts to pixilate, and the picture is so good, bigger is better once you experience the feel of home theatre. I added the Blu-ray DVD player, have yet to try a Blu-ray disc, but we’re ready for them. I already had an Onkyo 7.1 surround sound receiver, added a motley collection of speakers, a pair of old KLH’s, some home built rear and recently added a BIC 12″ sub woofer, now we can get all the sound effects and deep base we can handle. I used the HDMI connections for the Onkyo, Blu-ray and TV; these are a must to get the HD experience. Needed the composite hook up for a somewhat antiquated VCR, and a digital optical input for the best sound from the Home Theatre Amp. The message here is DON’T FORGET TO ORDER CABLES ALONG WITH THE TV. The sound out of the TV itself is OK, not horrible but far from a surround sound experience. I have never adjusted any of the picture settings, colors are rich and accurate, occasionally a bit dark but this can be adjusted by opting for the theatre experience which enhances the picture abit. Controls and adjustments both on the TV and the Onkyo require studying the manuals and carefully selecting from multi-layer menus. Not always clear what you want or how to get it, since we don’t do this everyday, adjustments require revisiting the manual. Once you are happy with what you have great, still need 3 remotes, haven’t been successful using any one as a universal though all claim it’s possible. Overall a huge upgrade from the old TV, enjoying it!

Blinking lights of death - mb2001 -
Shortly after purchasing power button light went into death throes. Blinks 7 times than stops briefly before it starts over again. TV will not power on. Large circuit board replaced one month ago and now back to doing it again. Google “Panasonic 7 blinking lights of death” to see just how widespread the problem is.

This is an excellent TV. You can read a lot of positive reviews about the EX500-32 on Amazon that will give you sufficient detail about the Sony Bravia EX’s. Start with those reviews and note the differences between the 500 and 700 are:

- Video Processing : BRAVIA Engine 3(tm) Technology:
Many of the LCD tv companies share the production of various parts, including the screen. One of the major differences between the brands is the software that drives it. The EX 700 has the Bravia Engine 3 driving it. The EX500 and lower have the Bravia Engine 2. The Sony rep told me that Sony makes 90+% of the digital cameras and equipment so they have the software advantage when it comes to interpreting those inputs to get the output (the tv). Take this for what it’s worth coming from a rep, but it’s something to consider when comparing TV brands. With the Bravia 3 engine you know you have the latest available.

- The EX700 has a motion sensor (Presence Sensor) that turns off the TV when nobody is in the room. I think this is important because heat can damage your tv. If you accidentally leave it on your risk of damage is lessened by the auto-off. Also, this will save some $ in energy bills.

- The EX700 has Motionflow 120Hz Technology for Smooth Motion, the EX 500 does also. The EX400 does not.

DEEP blacks - seTclock - New York
As an owner of a 50″ Pioneer Kuro, you can say that I am an HDTV snob when it comes to black levels and contrast. I truly missed the details seen in dark scenes on old CRT televisions when I first made the switch to HD with a 50″ Sony Grand Wega. Though this EX700 does not attain the Kuro’s degree of black level, it comes close, and as I have purposed it to be my bedroom TV, I am more than satisfied. The black levels are not the only strength of this set. The overall picture quality is superb… with a good HDTV signal. This is it’s Achilles heel. This Sony is awful with standard def programming. I did not remove a single star for this fault, as I don’t watch standard def TV. I purchased an HDTV to use it to watch sports, news/history/science and film, all in HD. Look at the (televisioninfo period com) review for this set and see not only the recorded black levels, but the overall review of picture quality and uniformity. That was the review that sold the set for me and I am glad I trusted it. In my research I did not find a 32″ set with better black levels, but if you’re fine when scenes of a night sky are shown as a field of gray with white dots interspersed then this review means nothing to you and you’ve wasted your time reading it!

When looking for a new TV to replace a 10 year old Sony Wega in my bedroom, I initially was very interested in the 32EX308 which is 720p but has internet connectivity and comes with a wireless adapter all for about 1 to 9 (Dell, Newegg). However, I came across a deal for the 32EX500 which I could not pass up - 0 less than most places (including Amazon) with free shipping and no tax.

I really like this set, the picture is brilliant and the simplicity of design is very stylish. I compared this set side by side with a Vizio that was priced only cheaper. All I can say is, the Vizio looked like it should have been 0 cheaper.

Three things would have made this a better set for me - if it had internet connectivity, if it had a clock/wake-up function and if it came in a 37″ model (the max my entertainment center will accommodate).

I am seriously considering buying the 40″ model, mounting it on the wall and giving my kids the 32″.

Love the TV. After comparing this smaller beauty with the 40 incher I bought for the living room, the only improvement I can suggest for it is the software. It pales a bit in comparison with the larger TV, but nothing I cannot live with. It still rocks and I like it!

The main reason I brought this TV is because I don’t have to spent big dollars to buy a 32″ monitor. This is the only 32″ Sony available in US with PIP around this price. I can now work on my PC and watch the news at the same time. For gaming and Movies, I am using HDMI for the best quality. I don’t care about the speakers because I have my 7.1 surround system. Many reviewers complain about the V and S series because they have weak speaker, but I really don’t get what they expect from a 10-watt TV speaker.

I can’t even recall the number of the Sony I owned, but I have always been a Sony fan. As for this TV, there are some pros and cons, it all depends on your need of the TV. I would still recommend it for the price.

Pros:
-Picture quality is great as a TV. But as a monitor, average quality, not very clear even with a good performance video card. My old 23″ Samsung is still better.
-Nice design, this design looks more like a monitor than a TV.

Cons:
-No clock, only a sleep timer.
-The cheapest SONY TV remote I have ever seem. I personally don’t like the design at all, especially the “2 rounded circle” buttons for navigation, special features, and select enter… too packed in that area and other area of the remote is too plain.
-”Ambient sensor” is useless to me, I have to keep it off.
-Sony monitor auto off never works well with when using PC, have turn off TV manually.
-No direct PIP button on remote, have to go in Tool menu, then select….. At least button on the remote doesn’t hurt.

PIP users -
If you use this monitor/TV with your PC, you might want to pay extra attention, because you cannot use HDMI with PIP to watch TV channels. Only in PC mode(or VGA) can be PIP with TV channels at the same time. But there is not much option out there anyway….

got this for our bed room.we have a 52 in sharp aquos in t the living room.thge sony was very easy to mount and the set up menu was very easy to use.it didnt take long to adjust the settings but i took a long time to tweek them.at first i didnt have a 1080 source just standard cable and a good sony dvd recorder.the picture with cable was no better if not sub par to the old tv i had.but when i put in 3000 miles from grace land in the dvd player you could see so vivid colors and actually see things that on a regular set you could not .ive noticed this on the sharps also but to even a more stunning degree with the sony.after hooking up a hd cable box i was fairly impressed.before i just had a cable hook up for cable but no box. after hooking up the box regular 480 pictures were even improved over the previous nights to a large degee .in 1080 the picture was very good.i have noticed the setting i orginally set will have to be changed for 1080 viewing.this tv has loads of hook ups more than the average person would need for either bed room or living room use .if you need more you probally wont be using a 32 in tv.ive got a cd dvd changer ,a dvd recorder,my receiver,a cable box a vcr and still have room for more items.you can indeed go with some cheaper tv brands but you tend to get what you pay for in many cases.ive see the same version of a vizo my freind has and its a darn good tv .i like the picture slightly better than his and the colors a good deal better.the sound is ok on the sony but i have to be honest no tv has really good sound compared to on hooked up to a audio receiver.you wont go wrong buying this tv .but unless your going to have a 1080 source dont bother go with a 720 .

I have owned many LCD TV’s over the years. From Sharp to Sony and from Magnavox and Toshiba. My most recent was a beautiful 24″ LED TV and a 46″ Sharp Aquous LCD TV. I have also owned over 5 32″ HDTV’s, the most recent being a Sony KDL-32S5100 and before that a 40″ KDL-40S4100. While I was entirely happy with the excellent quality of the S4100 the S5100 was HUGELY disappointing. The S4100 had some higher end specs with a 10-bit panel and a very nice casing. As the SonyKDL-32S5100 nearly directly competes with the Vizio SV320XVT I will compare the two. As a cost saving initive by Sony the S5100 dropped all the quality parts. It has a lesser 8-but panel and the casing overall feels cheap and is a much lesser quality than I had come to expect from Sony, especially in this price range. The Vizio however screams of quality.

The looks of this set is absolutely beautiful. You can truely tell that Vizio took their top of the line parts and put them all into this awesome package. The casing of the set is stunning. It has a beautiful gloss black surrounding the screen with the speakers, which are the best I have heard from a set this size, sit at the bottom. A very cool little feature is the light up VIzio branding under the screen. It glows a pleasent orange when the set is off and white when it is on. Even the remote is high quality. It is by far the nicest remote to come with any TV I have ever owned. It is super thin and light has a gloss black and chrome case and also has universal remote capability. I have it controlling a Samsung Blu-Ray player, which by the way looks simply awesome on this set. Smother awesome thing about the set is that it is only 2.2 inches thick! This leaves a bunch of extra space on my table for anything else that I want and would be excellent for wall mounting.

Unlike other 1080P sets that I have had SD content looks very good, even coming in straight from a wall jack. The HD 1080P processing on this set is in a league of it’s own, image truely pop from the screen, unlike the Sony which was only just ok. Some people do not like 120Hz sets as they can sometimes have weird effects on what you are watching. I can proudly say that that is not the case here. Another huge plus are the speakers. On my Sony I had to get a separate sound bar to have the sound quality that I wanted. However, no sound bar is needed for this set. I don’t get the low end bass that I got with it but everything else, mids and highs sound perfect.

If you can’t tell, I am absolutely in love with this TV and recommend it to anyone looking for a 32″ HDTV. It is an amazing TV at an amazing price. Vizio has a new long term customer in me!!

I got this t.v. expecting it to be just a regular HD TV, but this television has surpassed my own expectations. Equipped with smooth motion technology (120hz) and 1080p resolution this t.v. is perfect for your bedroom.
