Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?
![]() |
With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience.
If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.

Customer Review
I recently bought an LG Bluray player that includes streaming, since my TV doesn’t include that feature, and I wanted to try it. Based on my good experience with that device, I recommended this TV to a couple I know who wanted a 32″ TV and were also interested in streaming. I expected the streaming features to be much the same as on the Bluray player.
The TV does pretty much what they wanted, but I was surprised to find that the streaming features were quite different from what LG implemented on the Bluray player. The most noticeable was the Netflix behavior. On my setup, I can browse through a huge selection of of movies and TV shows available for streaming, and add them to the Netflix streaming queue right from my TV screen. On this TV, however, there is no browsing at all. Videos can be viewed, of course, but only after adding them to the queue; unfortunately, adding a video to the queue has to be done on the associated computer at the Netflix web site, with a very arcane technique. One must hover the mouse cursor over the “play” button associated with the video, and select “add to queue” when that appears; that was the tricky part, since “add to queue” is not visible until the cursor is hovered over the “play” button. This is not explained anywhere in the limited documentation, and I had to discover it by experimentation. Needless to say, the implementation on the Bluray player is much more convenient to use, especially when the computer is not in the same room as the TV.
My friends, who are not particularly tech savvy, would have given up on streaming without my help in puzzling it out. I wonder how many of the prospective buyers do just that, and get no benefit from the streaming features. Another problem is getting the initial internet connection working. In both the Bluray player and this TV, there was no internet connection until I realized that the default automatic Domain Name Server setup was not working. After contacting the ISP (internet service provider), getting the DNS info and entering it in the setup screen of the device, connection was completed. Again, something most users wouldn’t know how to correct.

I bought this as an open box deal on 7-15-2010. (I have ordered open box stuff before from warehouse deals.) On 10-2-2010 it stopped working, the picture totally disappeared. I only get audio. After running through the trouble shooting guide and unplugging and reconnecting everything and also rewiring to another antenna box even (using new cable connector) I have a house antenna, anyways nothing worked, this 50 year old woman even climbed on top of the roof to check the antenna, even though my 2 other tvs are doing fine. I called the company and they walked me thru a reset, (which you do by unplugging the tv and holding the power button for 40 sec. then plug it back in and turn it on), the result is that my tv is dead, my friend says it sounds like the tuner box is out- but a tech is coming coutesy of the company, which I am thankful for since the tv is not even 3 months old. I am giving it 2 stars only because the customer service tech was very polite and helpful. All I can say is don’t throw out your tv box, you may need it.
