Customer Review

I got this TV a little over a month ago, and have not once regretted the purchase. Before this TV I had a 32 inch Sony KDL-V32XBR1 for over 5 years, and finally decided now was going to be the time to get my own as I am moving out of my house. I did some research and found that Samsung was definitely in the lead in terms of quality and price, and finally settled on this model. I got it for 499 on sale at Best Buy, and the difference was incredible! This monitor is BEAUTIFUL, especially for 500 bucks! You might want to do a little tweaking with the color settings, but it usually does a very good job looking great without any help from you. I have HD Cable, a Xbox 360 hooked up via Component, and a PS3 hooked up with HDMI. The TV automatically senses which ports are active and only switches between the ones that have an incoming signal going to them, which is really convenient. It also has a power setting which defaults to on which will detect the ambient light and lower the back-lighting on the monitor to save power. I personally found that it lowered the light too much, as I like my movies bright and colorful, so I ended up turning it off, which I would recommend to anyone who doesn’t mind spending a little extra power on their picture.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I originally had a hard time with ghosting showing up on bluray like another reviewer, but it just didn’t make sense and unlike the other reviewer, after a little research I found that Digital Noise Reduction filters cause all the ghosting with HDTV’s these days, so once I turned that off in the TV’s menu, everything was back to being incredibly sharp and quick! Just make sure to turn that off when gaming or watching High Def movies, and you will NEVER look back on getting this TV. It has an incredible amount of BANG for the buck.

The Samsung LN32C530 TV has an important advantage - William E. Bender - Ocean City, NJ USA
I recently purchased the Samsung LN32C530 TV and I love it. We installed it in the bedroom, and it has a feature that is a big advantage for us: the “timer on” to wake us in the morning. We use it as our alarm clock to awaken us. Almost all TVs have a “timer off” feature or a “sleep timer”, but Samsung is one of the few TV manufacturers who offer the “timer on” advantage.

Also, I become amused by a review that complains that he had to put 4 screws into 4 screw holes to install the base. Is he joking? We installed the base and had it operational in about 10 minutes with no problems, and I am a senior citizen.

This is my 2nd Samsung TV purchase this year, and they offer a superior picture at minimal price.Samsung LN32C530 32-Inch 1080p 60 Hz LCD HDTV (Black)

Customer Review

When I decided to get an LCD TV, I shopped on line a bit and settled on this one, thinking the Sharp name would be enough to ensure a decent product. I am more than pleased with my decision. The picture on this TV, even with just rabbit ears, is outstanding. The sound is excellent, too, which is something I was worried about with a flat panel; however, I was pleasantly surprised.

I chose this model because of the 1080 resolution and the cabinet style, which I think is the most attractive out there for TVs of this type. The base allows the panel to rotate about 110 degrees, which is very nice and not particularly common with these things. I bought the red one (it’s really more burgundy, but that’s hard to tell from the pictures), and am glad I got such a unique set; it matches my crib. The auto brightness feature is great, especially for a bedroom, where I use my TV. Setup was easy and virtually everything is pretty intuitive without having to read the manual.

The cons are: cheesy remote with cheap feel and poor key layout (I bought a Sharp blu-ray at same time, and it came with much more functional remote with better feel); the fact that you have to toggle thru inputs on remote (see other reviews); on-screen display of menu items is too small, although it is neatly laid out. Although it offers stereo audio and subwoofer line-level outputs, I don’t like the switching on these. I want to use the TV’s speakers along with my stereo; I can do this, but I am not able to control output level to stereo (stereo volume) from TV as switching to variable line level output on TV turns off the TV speakers, which I need for realistic sound staging. I know they did this because they think this is what most people would want, but not I. Seems like a simple firmware matter to offer one more selection for audio output configuration.

Overall, though, I’m highly pleased. For years I lived without a TV (by choice) and then with only rabbit ears. I’ve already tried the digital converter box (govt. cheese) on my old tube set and the reception was poor (unlike this TV, which is great with just rabbit ears). So I caved in and did what Big Brother hoped I would with the digital switch: bought a new tv and signed up for pay service, which I’m getting next month. Next year if I find I’m watching enough to justify it, I’ll move this set to the kithcen/office and buy a bigger LCD for the bedroom, probably for less than what I paid for this one (about 0 from Amazon in early December 2008).

High Quality 32″ LCD - xeno -
I am extremely pleased with the overall quality of this television. While it is a bit on the pricey side for a 32″, the quality of the picture (in both SD and HD) is amazing. I purchased mine refurbished, saving a few hundred dollars, but it is worth the money.

Pros:

Superior SD and HD quality picture
Wonderful viewing angles - No picture degradation
Good audio for an LCD
3 HDMI inputs (including one on the side of the unit, which is helpful for wall mounting, which I have done)
Tons of options for adjusting the picture settings
Great design
1080p

Cons:
A bit pricey for the 32″ size (Some of the 1080p 32″ sets are now around 0)
Power up time and input changing speed are average

It is hard to find a TV larger than 22″ with a white bezel, and this is the only option out there that isn’t several years old.

I highly recommend this TV if you are looking for a unique color (Red, White), 1080p, and a high quality picture.

Excellent quality. - James T. Ong - Hawthorne, CA USA
Will recommend this product as it lives up to its specifications.
Picture quality and response is excellent.
A must for gamers.

Customer Review

We have had this TV for about two months, and love it to death. We got a steal on it at a local electronics store chain, and my girlfriend brought it home one day just as a spontaneous purchase because of the price she got on it. It’s our first ever Samsung purchase too. I have to say that the picture on this TV is literally stunning. Perfect rich color and pitch black blacks. The screen is a bit reflective when it’s off, so I was concerned that we’d have window and light reflection, but once it’s on there is no reflection what so ever. A HUGE plus over some of the TV’s I’ve seen that reflect light like a mirror. Don’t understand why people spend thousands of dollars on TV’s like that… but none of my busienss. The “touch of color” is a nice touch too. This TV works great with everything component we haven connected to it. Never really needed the manual because it’s really easy to navigate the menus and set up. It’s a GREAT and welcome addition to our bedroom. We had a 20″ LCD in there previously, now it’s in the kid’s room for video games. Everybody’s happy. It’s really one of the prettiest, most easy to use, but also one of the most powerful 32″ TV’s I’ve seen as far as performance, options, and features go. 100% satisfied with it after only two months, and since we BABY our electronics almost to a fault, I’m expecting to be ejoying this one for a long time! Exactly what you’re looking for when you spend a couple hundred dollars on a TV. You want options, ease of use, performance, and NO HASSLES or GLITCHES. Samsung hit the nail on the head with this one, hands down.

Better than expected for the price - G. Fraticelli -
This tv is perfect, it had more HDMI inputs than stated……the color and clarity is great and the set itself is beautiful.

Customer Review

I was at first torn between this Samsung, which is nice and thin but only 60 hertz, and other thicker sets in the same price range which are 120 hertz. I’m glad we decided on this thin Samsung. It is gorgeous, and for us the beauty of the TV set outweighs any subtle improvement in motion scenes obtained by 120 hertz.

I agree with previous reviewers that the screen is glossy, and you can see reflections under certain lighting conditions when the scene is dark. But this doesn’t change the fact that the picture is beautiful. If we are trying to watch TV in the daytime, we sometimes have to pull the shades to avoid seeing the reflection of our windows on the TV screen. If you are worried about this, I suggest testing the area where the TV will be by placing a mirror there. Sit where you normally sit to watch TV and see if there is a reflection of a bright light source such as windows in the mirror. If so, you will probably have to eliminate the light in order to watch the TV without distraction. I’m not convinced other new TVs are much better on the reflection issue.

I don’t agree that the screen causes motion sickness. Perhaps that reviewer had selected a setting that we didn’t. In general, we left all enhancement settings off.

I am using the TV as a monitor for a recent model Mac Mini. In addition, we have a Playstation 3. Our receiver is old and does not accept HDMI, so we are using the Samsung TV to switch between HDMI sources, and using the optical out on the TV to get the sound to the receiver. This setup works great, and the TV makes a terrific computer monitor. However, make sure you turn off the Samsung TV’s edge enhancement feature if using this as a computer monitor. Edge enhancement makes computer text and graphics look exceptionally bad, and it was a relief to discover that turning this feature off fixes the problem.

When we’re watching news, the TV’s speakers are great. When we watch a movie, we switch on the receiver for better sound.

It took a while to sort out how to get HDMI output from the mac mini. We first tried the Monoprice Mini Displayport Male and USB Male Audio to HDMI Female Converting Adapter, but the TV gave an error message and did not show a picture. We returned the Monoprice Mini Display Port and purchased the more expensive Kanex iAdapt 51 Mini DisplayPort to HDMI with 5.1 Channel Digital Audio, which works great but required rebooting the mac in order to get the correct resolution.

We don’t use the Samsung’s built-in tuner, so I can’t review that. We watch using EyeTV for the Mac.

The user interface of the TV is easy to use. The remote is thoughtfully laid out, but the touch sensitive controls on the front of the TV are hard to operate because you have to get your face right next to them to see where to touch. On the other hand, the fact that you can’t see these controls makes the TV more beautiful.

I wish Samsung had allowed users to program completely custom names for the sources. As it is, you can select from a preprogrammed group with names like “PC,” “Game,” etc. (I wanted “Mac Mini” and “Playstation 3″). Also, it would be nice to disable source inputs that you are not using, so that the TV will only switch between sources you are hooked up to. A feature like this would make it easier for guests and grandparents to operate the TV with minimal hassle.

I agree with another reviewer that the screw holes for the wall bracket are not the same as for most TVs, and if you want to use a full-motion mount you will have to spend some time finding the right screws at the hardware store. In our case, our wall mount had 100mm screw spacing, and the TV has 200mm screw spacing, so we purchased the LCD Adapter Plate. We purchased four M8 x 25 bolts with 1.25 pitch at our hardware store, plus four thick washers. We had to drill out the holes on the LCD Adapter Plate to accept the M8 size bolts (it was set up for M6), which was easy to do with a cordless drill and the right bit. We also used the four gray spacer sleeves that came with the TV, which prevented the Adapter Plate from blocking one of the TV’s cooling vents. This setup took some work, but it looks and works great. It would have been nice if Samsung had either standardized the mounting holes or provided the necessary adapter hardware in the box.

Great off-angle viewing - B. Kohler - Wash DC
This is my second Samsung HDTV. I have 55 inch and it’s the Cats Pajamas so I when I needed a smaller screen, I went with Samsung again. This tv has an incredible picture. I must say that for an LCD screen, the off angle viewing is superb. The picture is still quite clear from the side, with hardly any noticeable dimming or fading. Maybe it’s due to being LED lit.

I’m not a fan of 60hz tv’s, but this one seems to do well. I use the “movie” mode (definitely gives the smoothest picture) and leave the edge enhancement off. Using these settings, the tv seems to work very well for fast motion scenes and live sports action. Not really any cons to this tv except that in order to connect it to your wireless router, you need to buy Samsung’s wireless adapter separately. You can’t use a generic one. Otherwise, no complaints.

the worst quality control - S. Ahn - Palo Alto, CA
It does look like a high quality product. I’m using it as a big monitor for my mac mini and the pixels map quite well, not like cheaper Chinese brands.

However, mine was defective with buzzing noise from the behind that becomes louder when making the screen brighter and got unacceptably louder over 3 weeks. I returned mine and got a new unit, and am satisfied with my new one.

After a couple of week, I notice about one inch of blinking line on the left top corner, when connected to VGA. I’ve used a couple of LCD TV’s connected to my computer before, mostly cheaper chinese brands. This is the worst quality control. I may get a better working unit if I try once more. But, who knows what new problems I’ll get.

Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?

HDTV Size chart With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience.

If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.

  • Minimum size = Viewing distance/3
  • Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

Customer Review

Bought this TV for the bedroom. It has a fantastic picture and great sound quality. One great feature is the automatic picture adjustment based on the room ambient lighting, saves having to mess around with the picture when you flip on the side table lamp. Also the factory color presets actually support the intended display, example: cinema setting looks more like film.
The only thing this set doesn’t have that I would have like is an IP/Ethernet port. Otherwise I am extremely happy. Plenty of HDMI ports too.

Nice TV - M. J. Kessler - Georgetown, TX
TV now works great. However, it arrived with a defect on the screen - three highly visible light blue dots (1/4 to 1/8 inch in diameter) about 9 inches apart in the center of the screen plus a pattern of tiny light blue dots that looked like the milky way. Panasonic referred me to their authorized service center where the TV was repaired (replaced the panel).

A Nice TV - R. D. Trbovich - PITTSBURGH, PA, US
I’m am very pleased with my Purchase. The TV is great. I particularly like the SD slot, which enables me to review or display a slide show of pictures from my digital camera. Delivery was prompt and set up was very easy.
