Customer Review

As others have posted, I was hesitant to buy a TV on line. But, based on what some reviewers said, I made the move and was extremely satisfied with Amazon’s handling of the order. With free shipping and a promise of 5-9 business days, I ordered it late on a Wed. night and it was on my porch by noon on Sat. Unbelievable! I do wonder why they would deliver a TV without a signature and just leave it on a porch, visible to anyone passing by, in an unwrapped box, clearing showing that it is an LCD TV. A dishonest person, which I am obviously not, could say they never got it and there is no proof that it was delivered. This is an Amazon decision, to not require a signature and it seems foolish to me.

Out of the carton, without a cable box and just attaching the coaxial cable straight from the wall, the picture is terrific and equals my 42 inch Panasonic plasma TV with an HD cable box. I haven’t even attached the Comcast adapter yet and I am amazed with the crispness of the picture, lack of distortion and the color quality is great. I don’t think I will even bother to tweak the settings. Attaching the base is simply done with a single thumb screw.

I have external speakers that I used with my last TV and I’m not sure if I’m going to bother switching to them. The sound quality is fine for me as it is.

LOVE it! - mathmom - Salem, UT
I’ve had this for about one month now and have loved it. I was a little nervous about ordering a tv to be delivered rather than picking it up in a store, but it arrived in great condition. It’s very easy to set up; only took about 5 minutes. The controller is easy to navigate. The picture is fantastic. One hint: when you go through the initial set-up, choose retail set up instead of home set up. I chose home set up first and it was a little dark for me (it’s an energy saving feature.) I read online about choosing retail set up and tried it, and it looks wonderful. I have nothing negative to say about this porduct.

32 in. 720P LCD Vizio HDTV - K. Phillips -
This is an excellent bargain for the price. It is great for bedrooms. It replaced a bulky 27 in. picture tube tv. Besides hooking it up to cable it is also hooked up to the computer so we can watch HDTV downloads without having to pay additional monthly fees for an HD cable box. So buy a VGA splitter cable as it is well worth it.

Paid 0 for this TV and 18 months later POOF it completely stopped working. It wouldn’t turn on. We had the TV hooked up to a surge protector and had taken all precautions. Took it to a Toshiba repair service and they said the main board was defective. Cost of repair 0!!! Called Toshiba to see if they could do anything to help us but since the TV was only under warranty for 12 months they said tough luck. We will never buy another Toshiba product again. Buyer beware on this TV.

Customer Review

I didn’t buy at Amazon.com; I bought at a local electronics retailer. After taxes and California environmental fee, I saved about .

The Viore LCD32VXF60BD LCD TV/Blu-ray combo came in a nice box with a little plastic handle. I lifted it by myself without much trouble.

The box was in excellent condition. When I opened it, the TV inside was in perfect condition, held steady and protected by foam. It comes with a piece of plastic taped over the screen and a little bag containing the remote control with 2 AAA batteries and two separate instruction manuals (one in English, one in Spanish). It also comes with a power cord.

Once I got the TV out, I noticed right away that it is a nice-looking TV. It felt solid. Still, it was clearly a budget TV, in its general look.

The bottom of the bezel (frame) of the TV is a little wider than expected, cutting into the viewing area. I actually measured the viewing area and it is about 31 inches on the diagonal.

I programmed the TV to use cable. It found both analog and Clear QAM channels. I noticed that the on-screen menus are “budget style”: standard little fonts and square boxes that appear on the screen without whizzy animations and without any gee-whiz selection process. That’s all acceptable to me but I just wanted to let you know.

I took the TV through its paces. I left it on for about 6 hours. The 1080i picture that picked up on PBS looked good. No tuning or picture or functional issues.

I put in a Blu-ray disc. At first, the Blu-ray player didn’t want to accept it; it doesn’t just automatically accept the disc, switch everything and start playing. I had to switch the TV to the Blu-ray player input. The Blu-ray player then went up through a bootup sequence of mechanical spin up sounds for about 5 seconds. Once it accepted the disc, it whirred for about 7 seconds and then started playing. The wait was fairly short, not painfully long like some other Blu-ray players. Another oddity is that discs are inserted with the mirror side, not the label side, facing the viewer. This isn’t a big deal but, since people seem to expect that the label side should be visible when inserting the disc, you just have to know to insert it backwards/upside down.

The picture looked great from all angles. I looked from above, below, far left and far right and the TV has no issues with viewing it from an angle, even a harsh angle. If I could see the screen, I could see the picture.

Speaking of picture quality, I chose this player because I’d rather have 1080p and Blu-ray versus going with a mere 720p and DVD. As far as I’m concerned, Viore really delivers with best price for value. This is a good TV.

The sound was very strong. Lots of other TV/DVD combos don’t produce very loud sound but, in this case, I was comfortable with the sound set to 30 and moving it up to 100 made it very, very loud. Later, I noted that I could still hear the TV with both the shower and the bathroom fan running and on a setting less than 50. It also has an options for flat (regular) sound and (simulated) surround sound; flat sound is the default. Switching on surround sound is a big improvement for me and provided fuller, more enveloping sound.

Later, I noticed that the Blu-ray player does have a low-to-medium whine while playing. I also have an old Sharp 22″ TV/DVD combo. I compared the player sounds: the Sharp is nearly silent while the Viore Blu-ray player is much louder. Now, if I were you, I wouldn’t freak out about this. It’s not that bad and is certainly drowned out by action and regular talking scenes. But, you could hear it on a quiet scene. It wasn’t annoying, just a slight mechanical, spinning type whine that could fade into the background for most people. And, for those who care, I tested it with a Blu-ray with DTS-HD MA audio and, with a few adjustments, it could play it (in stereo) from the built-in speakers.

I also tested the Blu-ray player with a DVD and CD. DVD up-conversion to 1080p is excellent. CD sound is good.

The TV has an Ethernet port for getting BD-Live updates for Blu-ray discs. Although I looked in the manual and on the TV, there was no mention of which Blu-ray Profiles that are supported. Since it has BD-Live, I assume that it supports Profile 2.0. The manual says that BD-Live content can be stored on internal memory (300 MB) or on a USB drive.

The TV can play media on a USB drive. I played MPG, MP3, JPG and even MP4 (a 1080p Apple trailer converted using QuickTime Pro; it plays in full and beautiful 1080p). It doesn’t play MOV (no surprise there).

On reading the manual, I noticed that some Chinese guy had used the back of it for as a coaster and written some notes in Chinese characters on it. Also, the remote had a tiny, tiny gash in it. Back at the store, a salesperson opened another brand new box and, in that one, the user manual was folded back and about 10 pages had stray black marks on them and the remote control had a battery cover that didn’t fit quite right. So, apparently, some manuals and remote controls are messed up at the factory. I called Viore and they were not very responsive. They’ve gotten confused a bunch of times about what’s wrong (”It’s not that hard, guys, just send me a new manual and remote.”), had me e-mail them paperwork (which they sometimes lost) and I have had to keep pestering them. So, technical support for this TV is not very good.

The remote has a budget look-and-feel but is perfectly functional. Curiously, the Samsung remote for my Samsung plasma TV also controls this TV; apparently, Viore and Samsung use the same remote codes. The manuals are budget as well. The manuals don’t even have a “Getting Started” section but, if you have some familiarity with other electronics, you shouldn’t have much trouble.

The mounting screw holes are VESA 300 x 200 (300mm x 200mm) which is kind of rare. I mounted this TV with the Premier AM2-B Articulating Wall Mount plus the Arrow AM-201D Vesa 400 X 200 Adapter Plate for Wall Mounts plus some machine screws that I bought at a nationwide hardware retailer.

A friend suggested that Viore might be the house brand for Walmart, even though that’s not where I bought it. Akai, another consumer electronics company, seems somehow related to Viore but the relationship is unknown.

Honestly, this is a fantastic value for the price. I’d much prefer this 1080p TV/Blu-ray combo than a 720p TV/DVD combo. It completely blows that away.

Now, this TV Blu-ray combo has a special purpose for me. I’m going to mount it in a bathroom. I looked into buying a special, waterproof TV but those are like 7x to 8x the cost of an equivalent non-waterproof TV. (Waterproof TVs actually do exist and are available, in case that you are interested, and are mostly made by small boutique companies.) At that markup, I figured that I could lose a couple TVs to water damage before it made sense to consider a waterproof TV. The only other benefits of a waterproof TV are that some of them have the appearance of a mirror when they are turned off and they have heated screens to combat misting. In any case, my TV is mounted in the bathroom now and seems to work fine without any issues.

good value - L. Chmielewski -
This is a good value for the price, although digital channels are much clearer than the others…

Great TV, blue ray pretty good. - N. R. Magallanes -
The TV itself works really good, remote is nice, the menu is nice and the idea
of only not needing a second clunky device to hand or put on a shelf so you
can play DVD’s is phenomenul. The problem is that this blue ray stops a lot
and will not play several BD’s I have. I guess they are the wrong format, but
my other BD players play them just fine. We are working with it and I love the
product overall.

Customer Review

I did a tremendous amount of research before I bought this HD, including scouring amazon customer feedback, CNet, and Consumer Reports, and so far, after three weeks, the Philips has lived up to the great reviews. The picture is terrific, it’s easily customizable without being a brain-teaser and set-up was a breeze. It also glossy and sleek, while the screen is thankfully glare-free. I do really, really, really wish it came in white, though. Overall, you can’t find a better HDTV for the price.

Unlike other reviewers, I find the sound fine despite the speakers being in the back but then, I’ve kept mine on the stand about 18 inches from the wall and not tucked in a media cabinet. I agree that the remote should have some sort of backlighting b/c until you memorize the buttons you’ll need a flashlight to adjust format, sound, etc…

A couple of general buying tips: despite what manufacturers and reviewers may tell you, 32″ is a perfectly sized TV for the living room. My general viewing range is about 10-12 feet and I wouldn’t want a TV any larger. Also, don’t waste your money on 1040p for TV’s less than 40″–the higher resolution doesn’t register at the smaller sizes. Reputable reviewers say that 720p ( like the Philips) is exactly as good for 32″ and I agree.

Oh and one other thing: To take advantage of HD I hiked over to my local cable provider’s payment center and replaced my two year old digital cable box with an HD digital box. It’s free and totally worth the trouble. You’ll get better HD features, channels, and flexibility of resolution.

Sweet TV - FatOrangeTabby - Lansing, MI
We purchased this TV as a backup for our 46″ Samsung DLP. The color wheel and lamp in that TV are constantly going bad on us and we are so happy to have purchased this one. The LCD is so much more reliable! This TV has a great picture and looks really sharp in our bedroom when it’s not standing in for the other in our living room. We have not had a single problem with it in two years. Video games look great on it, as do DVDs. The remote could be a little better. Sometimes it seems like the TV is not very responsive when you press a button on the remote, but it’s something I can live with. The sound quality isn’t the best. I have to turn it up pretty loud to hear it over our elliptical machine when I’m using it. Overall, I’m very satisfied and I would definitely buy both a Phillips TV and an LCD TV again.

Great TV - J. Bishop - Cincinnati, OH USA
I am very happy with the Phillips 32″ HDTV. Bought mine at Wal-Mart and the most important factor to me was picture quality. The Phillips picture was sharper than the Samsung, Sony, or Vizio 720p HDTV’s. People have complained about the sound and I don’t think it is all that bad. Setup and controls are very easy to use. I think it’s a great HDTV for the price (I paid 9.00)!

Customer Review

According to LG’s website, to be wi-fi ready, this unit needs a 0.00 “Wireless media kit”, which the unit does NOT come with. Be very careful and ask questions if these are features you are buying this unit for. You may get it delivered and find you have to spend more to have it do what it is advertised to do. I am waiting for my “local” electronics store to get these in stock so I can actually see one and find out if LG is going to add this before shipping to its outlets.

    • TruBass creates incredible deep rich bass allowing a person to perceive significantly deeper, richer low bass tones that are far beyond the physical low frequency capabilities of the speaker itself.
    • The SRS WOW feature widens the sound stage by processing standard two-channel stereo material as well as multi-channel encoded material for a dramatic improvement in the playback of any stereo audio over a two-speaker system.

Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?

HDTV Size chart With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience.

If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.

      • Minimum size = Viewing distance/3
      • Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

      Customer Review

I purchased this TV second-hand, and I use it as a computer monitor. I do a significant amount of graphic design work, so color reproduction, black levels and clarity are very important to me.

Expect to spend some time playing with the settings if you want anything approximating true colors. At first I thought this was an awful TV/monitor. I spent a couple hours trying to calibrate it and, after being unable to achieve usable results, I almost sold it the next day. It took me a couple more hours of a tinkering to finally get it how it is now, but NOW it is fantastic.

It took a combination of video card settings and monitor settings. While calibrating I ensured I had a high contrast background with lots of dark colors. I played a video with lots of action and facial tones, and kept a color palette up. Then I played with the settings individually, I first got the monitor optimized: sharpness (0), contract (65), brightness(60), color(50), tint (G50/R50), color temperature (Cool2), in Dynamic mode using the “Just Scan” option and none of the stupid gimmicky software filtering they add under picture options. Then moving onto the video card settings I found that I needed to drastically alter the gamma settings to alleviate serious black-bleeding (+1.27). I also had to fool around with individual colors using the automatic monitor setup tool that comes with Nvidia video cards. Obviously, your TV and video card are going to differ from mine, but hopefully this serves as a helpful starting point.

The color reproduction and black levels are almost on par with my IPS and PVA panels that sit to the left and right respectively. Even though this is a TN, it does have very acceptable color reproduction. Now don’t get me wrong, you will not want to do any sort of graphic work on this TV, but it looks great for movies, games and general computer use.

It is sufficiently bright with the backlight on level 0 both at night and during the day.

The remote is alright. It’s quite ugly, but it’s designed with older folks in mind. The buttons are easy to hit and the backlight behind the keys makes it easily usable in a dark room.

The stand is sturdy and looks very nice and clean. The base’s rotation works well and stays where placed, it will not rotate on its own.

If you do much switching between resolutions, such as transitioning into a legacy full screen program, the monitor does take a few seconds to catch up. It is much worse than any monitor I’ve used before, but not a deal-breaker for me at all.

I can truly recommend this product, but be prepared to calibrate!

Died after 5 months of used.. samsung refuses to replace… - Corey McCormick -
I had this TV for a total of a year and 4 months. I was deployed to Iraq, so this TV was in storage for over a year. When i got it back, it worked great and nothing was wrong with it. 2 Months after I got back, it died and samsung refuses to replace it. The TV got a total use of around 4-5months. Do not buy Samsung products, they refuse to back them up and replace them.

I really love this tv, crystal clear picture when hooked up to hdmi cable. I read reviews that the sound was not that great, sure it’s not home theater, but upstairs in my bedroom I have no complaints with the sound. Startup was simple, and also was hookup. I have it mounted on the wall, and will be reviewing the mount for it as well. I did a lot of research on 32″ tvs and came up with this samsung which had high ratings. I also want to add I buy most of my electronics through Amazon and have always been pleased with their prices and services. Shipping was swift and easy to track. Another product I am well pleased with.

      Customer Review

I have had this TV four days and it has passed all acceptance tests. Dealing with a sub-contractor (Home Theater Store) of the merchant is a bit annoying and would be troublesome if there were damage or defects, but that did not happen. The tests were all run with a new Sony BDPS360 blu-ray player. I bought these products for the up-conversion of my collection of classic, irreplacable, out-of-print dance videos. The results so far are excellent.

The oldest performances (e.g. the American in Paris ballet) look much better, showing much more detail of costumes, backgrounds, and expressions. Minelli reds no longer bleed. The image is somewat distorted; perhaps tinkering with the settings would help this. There is no technical information provided by Sony to help you with this.

The newer dance videos (e.g. Kirov Dances Nijinsky) are breathtaking, better than a live performance in many respects when the camera work is first-rate.

The only Blu-ray disc I have tested (the Robert Downey Jr. Sherlock Holmes) did not show much improvement over the upconverted DVD videos.

The TV and player are very easy to use — just load the disc and the player takes over the TV and figures out how to play it. It was easy to attach the stand. On the other hand, the setup instructions for the TV are wrong for satellite TV service.

Fairly good picture, having trouble getting light and contrast adjusted to my liking, the sound is the worst I have ever heard.

I love the TV and I’ve had it for about a month now. Unfortunately, I don’t have a blue-ray player, but the picture comes across great on Netflix through the Wii. The sound is what you’d expect from a typical TV; nothing special. If you want better quality, purchase a home theater set-up… Also, I’ve noticed that the screen dims during dark scenes (not helpful), but later learned that this is in response to ambient lighting. You can turn this feature off in the eco setting within the menu. Works great now. The stand is rather flimsy and plasticky; I’m only 150 lbs. yet every time I walk by the TV seems to sway. I would recommend getting a wall mount if you can. The only other thing I can think to mention is the appearance. I kind of hate it. I will say I’m very picky, but the bottom portion of the frame is horrible. There is a clear strip that runs partially through the center that serves no aesthetic purpose unless you enjoy looking at cords behind the TV… Overall, I would recommend this TV to anyone. The image quality is superb and it serves as an excellent addition to any room.
