Panasonic TC-P65S2 65-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV Review

I spent the last 2 months researching my next purchase of television. I am one of those advantages and disadvantages of each surplus Searches important purchase. I stated at the beginning of my quest to purchase a TV for my basement finished. As can easily control the ambient light virtually any display technology to the table - Plasma, LCD, LED, LCD, DLP, etc. I love the picture quality DLP sets but eventually decided to exclude the technology mainly because ofSize (width) and the fact that I finally need to replace a light bulb. I decided not to traditional CCFL LCD, in spite of having a Sharp Aquos LC46D84U. This is basically left me with LED LCD and plasma technology. After back and forth, I finally decided to go plasma. I believe that ultimately the deciding factors for me were the picture quality and overall costs.
I use my TC65S2 about the last 2 weeks and I am absolutely horrified by the imageQuality. I am truly amazed at how much better the display looks like my Sharp Aquos. The black levels are incredibly detailed, black ink, leaving my Aquos display "as it can only generate gray instead of black level. Out of the box the TV came on the" color setting that impressive "brilliant distorted pop" on screen, but It 's a bit of skin tones and makes people look a little' orange. DVE HD calibration disk I used my principles and my calibrated TC65S2 me. E 'probably not as good as a professional calibration, but I'm pretty happy with the result.
The TV has a prepayment additional parameters such as "Movies" and "game". I have both and am happy to say that the settings actually very useful. I use a PS3 for gaming and watching Blu-ray. Setting the film in the shadows of BD movie playback in the overall brightness and includes film of "hot" colors in a structure similar to the movies. The parameter "Game" is awesomemaintains a good level of black, while the overall increase of color. I can honestly say that after playing God of War 3 is my Aquos and restored to them as a different game. There are many areas where GoW3 are extremely dark and I have just seen details which was not easy with my Aquos. Everything seems cleaner, more detailed and colors are more accurate.
Aesthetically, it looks behind Panasonic Samsung, Sony and Sharp late. While these companies have investedinstrumental in the looks of all their glasses for the remote control, Panasonic, has a more clean and simple. Personally, I have no problem with the soft look - I'm more interested in image quality than anything else. He said that the TV has a nice shiny black finish. This continues to be quite simple wedge, is included. Unfortunately, the remote can do to be desired. Perhaps most important, is not backlit. The simple thingsthat the volume in a dark room, thanks to the particular shape of the key, however, change the entry as it is not. I think the G-2x VT and Panasonic plasma offers better control, backlit remote. After the first week I finally had the time, my Harmony for my new TV show and do not want to lose all the Panasonic remote.
The parties, including television is adequate, but unremarkable. Frankly, 65 "I think that most people who buy a series ofthis is the fact that a home theater system and surround sound. I used the included speakers for about a day before I moved into my home theater speakers.
Feature as S2 could be a "bare bones" by some. Personally, I was on the fence, get a G25 or a jump in the (3D) series of VT. Ultimately, however, I think, two things that I hesitated S2. First, the size, I wanted to create a home theater and the G25 fills up to 54 VT25 is "Panasonic has a 65".Full-HD-3D, but this game is about the mark of $ 4000 dollars. With such a limited amount of 3D on the market today I could not justify the price. Secondly, the bells and whistles of more expensive games and the G25 series VT, but I do not know how many times I watch YouTube videos or listening to Pandora Radio on my TV. The integration of Netflix is probably the best feature, but I'm in it, with my PS3. For someone looking for a TV with a picture andnot just in the properties of the devices, S2 is the way to go!
Finally, for those who do not know Panasonic has recently been in a little 'scandal - at least for the fans to go AV - with their plasma screens. It seems that use different degrees of plasma TVs, Panasonic has started to lose their deep black level. There is much talk about the different positions AV severity of the problem, but as noted by the editors of CNET review is done and there is a problem with the 2009 andis earlier. For S2, using a new Panasonic Neo PDP panel, and it remains to see what happens. This was a topic that was derailed in the vicinity of my purchase this set. But after reading more about the subject and the fact that the change is gradual - not something that happens overnight - I felt I could go ahead and make the purchase. I will check in the coming months and possibly comment. I hope that 2010 defines the Panasonic was able to mitigatethe problem. Time will tell.
For more information:
- In the box this TV weighs 165 pounds! The TV weighs only 123 pounds and 137 pounds with the media. Be sure you have adequate support during the installation of this TV! Fortunately, Panasonic has designed no handles on the back of all is a bit 'less cumbersome.
- I noticed that if you use HDMI directly to my PS3 I can use some features VIERA Link. For example, if I switch my TV input on myPS3 on my PS3 automatically. Give a nice feature that I thought was only compatible with Panasonic Viera Link, which are activated.
- This feature 3 HDMI inputs and 2 component inputs. There are additional inputs for composite and SDHC. The S2 series was not much you earn additional entries with the VT series G2X or as USB, Ethernet, RS-232C, PC, etc.
- For a large plasma TV, the S2 does not generate much heat, as Iexpected. Even after having recently watched a movie and then along a World Cup football on television was not hot.

UPDATE 7/5/10:
A small drawback is that I just noticed today that the volume to do is ambiguous. Not a big deal if you have a home theater system that the volume of television would not be a problem - just something I noticed, tinkering with my setup.

With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience.
If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.
- Minimum size = Viewing distance/3
- Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5
